While most travelers only visit the Valley of the Kings, the true connoisseurs of ancient Egypt cross the Nile to explore the West Bank’s hidden artistic masterpieces. This private tour takes you off the beaten path to three extraordinary sites that offer unparalleled color preservation, architectural grandeur, and raw human history.

Led by your private Egyptologist, you will explore the Valley of the Queens, the sacred resting place of royal wives and children. Next, you will step inside Deir El-Medina (The Valley of the Artisans), the ancient village of the master stonecutters and painters who built the pharaohs' tombs—leaving behind beautifully detailed depictions of their own daily lives. Finally, you will stand before Medinet Habu, the massive, fortified mortuary temple of Ramses III, famous for its colossal deeply carved reliefs that still retain their original, vibrant 3,000-year-old paint.

Itinerary

The Hidden Treasures Itinerary

08:00 AM – Private Hotel or Cruise Pickup
Your private Egyptologist and driver will greet you directly at your Luxor hotel lobby or Nile Cruise ship. Settle into your premium, air-conditioned vehicle as you cross over to the West Bank, receiving a fascinating introduction to the everyday workers and royal families of the New Kingdom.

08:30 AM – The Valley of the Queens
Arrive at Ta-Set-Neferu ("The Place of Beauty"), where the queens and royal princes of the 19th and 20th Dynasties were buried.

The Tombs: Your ticket includes access to three beautifully painted tombs of royal family members. Your guide will show you how these resting places differ in style and religious text from those in the Valley of the Kings.

(Optional Upgrade: You can purchase an extra ticket at the gate to experience the legendary Tomb of Queen Nefertari, widely considered the absolute pinnacle of ancient Egyptian wall painting).

10:00 AM – Deir El-Medina (The Artisans’ Village)
Drive to the secluded valley of Deir El-Medina. This unique archaeological site houses the actual foundations of the ancient village where the royal tomb builders lived with their families.

The Tombs of the Masters: Descend into the private tombs of master artisans like Sennedjem or Pashedu. Because these painters were decorating their own tombs, they used the finest techniques and brightest pigments. The walls show stunning, intimate scenes of harvesting crops, worshipping gods, and stepping into paradise.

11:30 AM – Medinet Habu (The Temple of Ramses III)
Conclude your historical tour at the magnificent Medinet Habu, a colossal complex second in size only to Karnak. Serving as both a temple and a fortified palace, its walls depict grand naval battles against the "Sea Peoples." The carvings here are famously cut deep into the stone to prevent future pharaohs from erasing Ramses III's legacy, allowing the original paint to survive beautifully.

01:30 PM – Return Transfer or Optional Lunch
Relax in your private vehicle as your driver transports you smoothly back to your hotel or Nile cruise ship. Alternatively, ask your guide to drop you off at a scenic, traditional West Bank restaurant overlooking the Nile for lunch!

Frequently asked questions

Is the famous Tomb of Nefertari included in this tour? How do I see it?

A: Standard general admission to the Valley of the Queens includes entry to three beautiful standard tombs, but does not include the premium Tomb of Queen Nefertari (QV66). To protect its delicate, world-famous colors, the government charges a separate premium entrance fee. If you wish to see it, you can easily purchase this ticket at the main valley gate on the day of your tour—your guide will gladly assist you with the purchase!

Why should I choose this tour over the standard Valley of the Kings tour?

A: This tour is the perfect complement to the standard sights, or an amazing alternative if you prefer fewer crowds and higher artistic detail! Deir El-Medina offers a look into the real, daily lives of ancient Egyptians (their homes, their marriages, and their artwork), while Medinet Habu boasts some of the deepest, best-preserved color reliefs in all of Egypt.

How much walking and climbing is involved in these sites?

A: This tour requires moderate walking over dusty and sandy terrain. The tombs at Deir El-Medina are highly compact and require descending steep, narrow wooden stairs down into the burial chambers. If you have severe knee or claustrophobia concerns, you can easily opt to enjoy the village ruins and temple flats while other members of your group descend.
